This track works wonders in clubs right now. Loving the video’s Bay Area love (especially the Amoeba music appearance). Mac Dre shout 56 seconds in (and E-40 appearance) FTW. On a somewhat related note, check Diplo opening his hyphy set at Ruby Skye (!?) a few months ago with the classic Mac Dre track Drake is referencing.
New Major Lazer…it’s insane. No pop appeal whatsoever, kind of sounds like hardstyle dutch gabber techno from the 90s. But the break at the 2 minute mark will have club kids going bonkers, that’s for sure.
Holy ship! Cruise ship party to the Bahamas featuring Diplo, A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Fatboy Slim, Rusko, Laidback Luke, Buraka Som Sistema etc. Stopover at a private island. Put together by the Hard Festival team. Cabins go on sale June 15. Cruise takes place on January 6-9, 2012. Sounds amazing. More info: http://holyship.com/
According to Billboard, Tiesto’s 2010 Kaleidoscope tour grossed $28.6 million and achieved more than 525,000 in attendance to 110 shows, making him one of the 25 top grossing live artists of 2010. Even if he just took home a 10-20% margin on that sum, he got a healthy seven figure paycheck.
“Some of the highlights would be closing the main stage at Coachella after Muse, performing to 20,000-plus in Red Square in Moscow and another sold-out Ibiza residency at the world’s largest nightclub, Privilege,” says Paul Morris, worldwide agent for Tiesto at AM Only.
This music video is out of control. It’s basically a modern-day sequel to the lo-fi Das Racist video game I posted a few weeks back. Some wtf moments you’ll discover if you play close attention:
In the background of the Lil Jon vs. Diplo fight scene: Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Tiger Woods, John McCain and Sarah Palin wearing oversized middle finger gloves
Lil Jon throwing a hamburger and a chicken at Diplo
A bear and a baby dancing in the background of the club scene
Silver horses running next to race cars
Taiwanese subtitles that, at one point, refer to Erol Alkan (I wish somebody would translate them)
By the way, the compilation looks rather dated and uninspired in my book (track list below). But if you’re not familiar with the genre you might still find it an interesting release.

Duck Sauce (Armand Van Helden & A-Trak) - Barbara Streisand
How many cameos can you fit into a single music video? Duck Sauce set the bar pretty high with the So-Me directed vid for their second single, “Barbara Streisand”. Guest appearances include Kanye West, Just Blaze, Pharrell, DJ Premier, ?uestlove,Chromeo, Santigold, Diplo, DJ Mehdi, Todd Terry, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Jew Diamond Phillips of Team Facelift, Smif-n-Wessun, Dust La Rock, Ryan Leslie, Buckshot, Yelawolf…and probably ten other artists and NY nightlife figures that I didn’t recognize. The cameos are actually woven in pretty cleverly from a musical perspective (see ?uestlove’s drum part, for example) and the song itself is a Boney M sampling disco house jam that’s tons of fun.
“Barbara Streisand” will be available on iTunes, Amazon et al. on October 12th. There have been dozens of crappy blog house remixes floating around, so it’ll be good to finally have the official version.
Das Racist, the guys behind one of the most mindblowing music videos of the year, just released their new mixtape “Sit Down, Man” and it’s pretty much as amazing as their video. The mix was put together by Diplo, who also produced “You Can Sell Anything”, one of the release’s standout tracks (4th most popular track on Hype Machine last week).
If that’s too much hipster cred for some of the indie hip hop heads out there: You’ll probably get it together by the time you hear the track they did with Def Jux founder and former Company Flow mastermind El-P.
You can grab the mixtape for free here. Tracklist below.
